This is a bicycle tunnel that provides a safe passage under the busy Edegemstraat near the Hove train station. Thanks to this tunnel, the last missing link in the nonstop Berchem–Kontich bicycle route has been completed. Construction of the tunnel under Edegemstraat began in August 2007. The tunnel was cast on site in a construction pit as a monolithic structure and then slid into its final position using rails. This allowed disruption to Edegemstraat to be kept to a minimum. Subsequently, the necessary retaining walls for the access ramps were poured, after which the bike path could be completed.
