The new public function of the town hall—which includes a library, seating and dining areas, and a multipurpose space—calls for an open and inviting facade. Setting back the building line allows the glazing to extend all the way to the property line with the neighboring buildings. At the same time, we’ve incorporated vertical elements that add texture to the facade and visually transform it from closed to open, depending on the viewing angle. The facade’s composition is a blend of traditional and contemporary materials. Decorative concrete provides neutrality, while brick offers a nod to Rupelmonde’s history. The outdoor space at the rear, with its seating steps, transforms a flat, boring outdoor area into a visually interesting and usable space that functionally complements the library.
