The Hyllit Hotel, located at the corner of De Keyserlei and Appelmansstraat in downtown Antwerp, is a familiar fixture on the city streetscape. The hotel stands out for its architectural corner accent and the facade panels with slanted glazing, interspersed with vertical bands of natural stone (white Carrara), a design element the client sought to highlight his hotel and its shopping arcade as a major attraction.
Phase 3 of the project involves the expansion of the Hyllit Hotel, previously designed and built by Ryckaerts & Partners, located at the corner of De Keyserlei and Appelmansstraat in downtown Antwerp, near the central station. The new section, considered an extension, will replace the five residential units along Quellinstraat. To respect the character of the street, an architectural design consisting of three building volumes of varying widths and heights was chosen. The connection to the previously built section of the hotel occurs across three levels: the basement, the ground floor, and the mezzanine. An interior courtyard and rooftop gardens provide greenery between the main buildings.
