The sports canteen’s layout can be divided into two main functions: on the one hand, the locker rooms, restrooms, storage rooms, and storage areas; and on the other hand, the more communal spaces, such as the cafeteria or reception areas. The former functions tend to be more private in nature, while the latter are more open (public) in nature, and they also relate differently to the surrounding infrastructure, such as the playing fields and the parking lot.

To keep the building’s height modest within the surrounding landscape, it was designed to be lower. The more “enclosed” functions are located at the bottom, partially underground, with direct access to the fields via two outdoor staircases. The cafeteria is situated above these areas so that activities on the fields can be viewed from a better vantage point, and it is accessible via a large ramp leading to the parking lot.

The building was fitted with a plinth made of gabions—a robust material—around its entire perimeter, interrupted only by the concrete grandstand. Above this plinth, the facade was clad with profiled steel sheets. The use of gabions is continued in the retaining walls of the access ramp and as design accents in the parking lot layout.
