For the expansion and renovation of the Résidence d’Arquennes, OSQB served as the project architect, structural engineer, and mechanical and electrical engineer. The project involves the comprehensive renovation of a historic villa and its integration into an existing residential care facility, with the goal of significantly increasing the capacity and quality of the care infrastructure.
The design calls for a complete renovation of the charming villa, preserving and restoring authentic elements such as decorative ceilings and fireplaces. At the same time, a new extension will be built to connect the existing care wing and the villa in a logical and accessible way. The living spaces will be relocated to the villa and expanded to include new communal areas that are oriented as much as possible toward the street and garden. In addition, a new day care center will be established, and additional rooms for short-term stays will be integrated into the project.
As a structural engineer, OSQB developed the structural solutions for both the renovation of the existing building and the new additions. A particular challenge was integrating the new volumes and circulation cores into the existing structure, combined with the construction of a new pool area beneath the terrace and the creation of large, open living spaces.
In addition, OSQB was responsible for the design of the technical systems, with a particular focus on the comfort of residents and visitors, the building’s accessibility, and the energy performance of the renovated healthcare facility. Thanks to this multidisciplinary approach, architecture, structural engineering, and building services could be optimally coordinated from the design phase onward.
Once completed, the residential care facility will accommodate 47 residents, including 7 short-stay beds, along with a day care center for 12 people. The project combines heritage preservation, contemporary architecture, and high-quality care infrastructure into a single integrated whole.
