Elzenveld 'Botanic'
Over the years, this site underwent a lot of changes. It all started with the construction of a hospice in the 11th century. A chapel, infirmary, refectory and pharmacy were then added at various stages. Which were eventually partly demolished again to build a new hospital, hotel and conference centre.
Despite the historic appearance of this site, the various annexes and buildings from different periods created an outdated and sombre appearance. This project includes the renovation and new construction of the hotel and conference centre, into a hotel that emphasises light, freshness and openness, giving it a contemporary look with an important historical touch.
In addition to the renovation of the historic monastery site, a new building will be erected in contemporary architecture. This is where the reception will be located with stunning views of the adjacent winter garden and the rest of the site.
Preserving the historic character was very important in the design. As a result, preserving the old woodwork was essential.
The challenges posed around the stability of the old beams and the buildings themselves were met with great enthusiasm.
