The construction of the recreational center is in all aspects a project together with the people of Edegem. Many gave their opinions on the functions and architecture of the new recreational center during sounding board groups.
In fact, the original design planned apartments at the center, these were removed from the design after many concerns from residents about the privacy of their gardens as well as the amount of parking spaces. A commitment was made to sustainability by building the entire above-ground structure of the recreational center out of wood. The big advantage of using wood, according to the municipality, is that it prevents emissions of the greenhouse gas CO². For every ton of carbon you trap in wood and use it in construction, you save about 4.4 tons of CO2 emissions. The recreational center will be a place where the people of Edegem can come together and get to know each other across generations.
Designed with and for the people of Edegem, a building with an interior that is flexible and can be adapted to their changing needs.
